What You Will Do

Pratt & Whitney AutoAir is looking for a highly motivated Business Unit Manager (BUM) to provide supervision, lead operations, and support the business, ensuring smooth and efficient operations for jet engine test equipment design and manufacture. This will require the incumbent to continually search for opportunities to enhance the business processes using a variety of problem-solving techniques, effective interpersonal and communication skills, along with technical competencies. The person in this role will motivate, coach, and encourage employees to optimize standard work, career development and personal satisfaction. The BUM will promote excellent employee relations and empowerment of all assigned personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • You are expected to reflect role model behaviors in which others want to learn from, always does the right thing, exemplifies servant leadership, holds self and others accountable, encourages teamwork and delivers a quality work product – you are expected to lead by example and in accordance with Pratt & Whitney culture and values expectations

  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels both hourly and salary

  • Provide leadership necessary to address continuous improvement, capture efficiencies, and increase productivity.

  • Ensure all production activity meets established quality standards and cost estimates; lead analysis and development of processes, performance metrics, and trends to drive increased performance and production timing

  • Interface with Program Management, Quality, Materials, Finance, Manufacturing Engineering and Design Engineering to support integrated value stream solutions

  • Develop budgets, financial forecasts, succession planning, and strategic development plans

  • Aid with the justification and acquisition of capital equipment

  • Coach employees to develop a motivated, effective team and proactively address performance issues, as needed

  • Support corporate and site EH&S policies and procedures and actively support and lead continuous improvement initiatives driven by the CORE operating system

  • Meet business metrics goals as defined for the division (Cost, Quality, Delivery, EH&S).

  • Implement root-cause corrective actions in a timely manner to ensure quality standards are maintained.

  • Create and maintain the production schedule and execute contingency plans

  • Assist Program Management team with quoting and customer support

  • Work with Sales to drive business development and growth. Assist with customer sales pitches, contracts, NDAs, etc.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Advanced degree and 7+ years of experience in Engineering, Military, Manufacturing, Aerospace, or Aviation industry; OR Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of relevant industry experience; OR Associate’s degree and 12+ years of relevant industry experience.

  • 3+ years of leadership experience managing business operations.

  • 1+ year of personnel management and leadership experience.

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Degree in STEM field; Business or Engineering fields preferred.

  • Personnel management experience, particularly within a bargaining unit / union workforce environment.

  • Knowledge of Union-Management Collective Bargaining Agreements.

  • Proven ability to lead mentoring, coaching, developing talent and motivate teams to achieve business goals.

  • Knowledge and experience with ground test nacelle equipment.

  • Experience working directly with international and domestic customers.

  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles, and continuous improvement tools (CORE/ACE/SixSigma).

  • Experience working with Solumina MES, SAP ERP, MS Office Suite and MRP material ordering systems.

  • Ability to communicate at all levels of the organization including senior level management.

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
