Job Description: The Merck Infectious Disease and Vaccines group is seeking applicants for a position in the HIV Biomarkers area. The job will entail several facets of HIV biomarker work including: • Receipt, logging, and processing of patient blood samples into PBMCs. • Cell isolations from HIV+ human tissue biopsies. • Running of biomarker assays on the above samples (including pPCR, standard and ultra-sensitive ELISAs, and potentially flow cytometry). • Assisting with development, validation, and running of novel biomarker assays. • Testing of test compounds in primary cell HIV assays. The job is fast-paced and will be very much hands-on in the laboratory. Handling of HIV+ materials (lab strains as well as patient-derived samples) is a job requirement. Great organizational skills, communication, time management, and the ability to learn to operate state-of-the-art laboratory equipment and automation are also required.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have at least a bachelor's degree in a life science or bioengineering and 2 years of hands-on laboratory experience and able to execute experiments independently after initial training from a more experienced lab member. Experience with cell culture, blood processing, and immunoassays is strongly preferred. Other desired experience includes primary cell culture and flow cytometry.
