Science Systems and Applications, Inc. Procurement Intern in Lanham, Maryland

SSAI seeks an intern to help provide support to the procurement team. This is a great opportunity to transition into an entry-level procurement role. The position is located at SSAI Headquarters in Lanham, Maryland. The responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the Buying Process:

  • Assist in the preparation and issuance of purchase orders based on requisitions from various departments.

  • Help in sourcing and selecting suppliers by gathering quotes, comparing prices, and analyzing supplier capabilities.

  • Market Research:

  • Conduct market research to identify new suppliers, products, and trends that could benefit the company.

  • Analyze market conditions to help forecast product demand and assess the availability of materials.

  • Supplier Communication:

  • Communicate with suppliers to follow up on orders, resolve discrepancies, and ensure timely delivery of goods.

  • Help manage relationships with suppliers, including tracking their performance and ensuring they meet the company’s standards.

  • Documentation and Record-Keeping:

  • Maintain accurate records of all transactions, purchase orders, and supplier communications.

  • Help ensure that all purchasing documentation complies with company policies and procedures.

  • Cost Analysis:

  • Assist in analyzing the cost of goods purchased, looking for ways to reduce costs while maintaining quality.

  • Help in preparing reports on spending, supplier performance, and cost savings.

  • Learning and Development:

  • Participate in training sessions and workshops to learn about procurement processes, supplier management, and industry best practices.

  • Shadow experienced buyers to gain insights into negotiation techniques, supplier selection, and strategic sourcing.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance or related field

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to interpret financial data and identify trends or discrepancies.

  • Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in financial records and reports.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact professionally with team members and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, supporting colleagues and contributing to shared goals.

  • Excellent time management skills to prioritize tasks effectively and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Basic proficiency in Excel, including the ability to create and manipulate spreadsheets, use formulas, and perform data analysis.

  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards in handling financial information.
