Job Summary:

To assist senior surveyors in measuring the dimensions and boundaries of assigned land and determine the shape, elevation, and position of the place.

Requirements:

  • Able to conduct field surveys with supervision.

  • Due to government projects, this person must be a U.S. Person (citizen, permanent resident, asylee or refugee). Preferred: U.S. Citizen.

  • Must have active driver's license and reliable vehicle for travel to job sites in Northern Virginia, Maryland and DC. Must have acceptable driving record.

  • Exposure to reading construction drawings (grading, slopes, contours, utilities, coordinates, compass direction, elevation, etc.) AND able to learn to read civil construction drawings. Preferred: Core knowledge of land surveying and land measurement principles/practices; able to read civil construction drawings.

  • Able to use land measurement tools and equipment (prior experience preferred).

  • Excellent mathematical, logical, and analytical skills: arithmetic, geometry (area/volume), algebra. Preferred: Trigonometry (or be trainable).

  • Knowledge of MS Office, and AutoCAD, and excellent documentation skills.

  • Able to learn and understand GPS equipment computer software applications for land survey. Preferred: Prior experience with GPS equipment and related software applications, such as Total Station and GPS.

  • 1 year of survey experience and/or degree/related coursework in civil engineering or construction. Preferred: Civil Engineering degree (or equivalent combinations of experience and formal education).

  • Occasionally – Crawls, climbs stairs/ladders; carries or lifts up to 15 pounds (documents, plans, equipment, materials).
