Job description

Direct Wire & Cable is seeking an *Upcast Supervisor *to join our team! This role will oversee all production activities within the Cast House. This involves managing casting, sawing, homogenization, and associated processes to meet customer shipping and quality requirements at Direct Wire.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct metal flows throughout the Cast House based on production needs.
  • Support, promote, and implement all EHS guidelines and practices as established for the department.
  • Safely cast and deliver a quality product that meets all applicable customer requirements while minimizing costs.
  • Directly responsible for product flow from the furnaces to the casting units and finishing processes.
  • Lead the operation of the vertical casting units, the inline casting units, continuous rod caster, homogenization furnaces, and the sawing/inspection operations, including troubleshooting with mechanical and electrical maintenance staff.
  • Ensure that all casting and sawing practices and procedures are adhered to and stay in sync with quality system standards.
  • Maintain relationships with other casthouse supervisors on shift, casthouse engineers, scrap coordinator, and production planner/shipping coordinator.
  • Handle labor relations on shift in accordance with Direct Wire policy, including first-step grievances and discipline.
  • Provide problem-solving information to Cast House furnace operators and other shift supervisors to prevent off-grade production.
  • Participate in quality audits.
  • Support the hiring and training of personnel and foster a trained and motivated staff.
  • Enable, coach, and guide effective teams to solve any problems that may arise.
  • Lead safety advocacy by recognizing, documenting, and correcting any safety issues to always maintain a safe work environment.
  • Assist all teams with setting and tracking goals for all plant measures.
  • Execute all company disciplinary procedures in collaboration with Human Resources.
  • Maintain a team environment and high employee morale.
  • Work with our facility partners to address any facility issues that may affect operations.

Qualifications:

  • A Highschool Diploma or GED Equivalent is required.
  • Management experience within an industrial environment is required.
  • Proven knowledge of casting and downstream processing preferred, but not required.
  • Must have strong computer skills, including MS Excel, MS Word and MS Outlook
  • Skills in leadership, decision-making, problem-solving and communication.
  • Ability to represent the company professionally both within and outside of the organization.
