Fairfield County Corrections Officer in Lancaster, Ohio

*Fairfield County is hiring for Corrections Officer *

Under direct supervision, oversees and monitors the activities of prisoners to ensure the security of the jail facility; may perform other duties as required.

Duties

Monitors prisoners during meals, work, recreation, housekeeping, and visitation;

Distributes meals, medication, mail, and personal items to prisoners;

Escorts prisoners to and from secured areas, confinement, and court;

Transports prisoners to and from the facility as required;

Conducts routine security checks of jail areas and equipment;

Searches prisoners and cell areas;

Conducts prisoner head counts;

Handles inmate complaints, requests, and/or difficult situations;

Reports problems or unusual circumstances to superiors;

Assists in the booking and processing of prisoners;

Runs records checks and enters inmate information into the computer to generate required reports;

Prepares files on prisoners;

Assists in processing the release of prisoners from the jail;

Prepares, types, and maintains jail activity reports, daily log, and other related documents;

Operates a control board and electronic doors;

Monitors audio and video equipment to observe prisoner activity;

   Utilizes an intercom, paging system, and emergency system as necessary;

   Attends staff meetings and training sessions as required.

Qualifications

Must be a United States Citizen.

Must be 18 years of age.

Must have a High School Diploma or GED.

Must have a valid driver's license.

Supplemental Information

Works an 8-hour shift, in a uniform assignment in the jail, with 2 consecutive days off on either 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift; may be required to work during other than one's assigned shift.

Ability to remain calm during stressful situations; ability to communicate effectively with others; ability to prepare clear and concise reports and written materials; ability to maintain accurate records and files; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; ability to perform tasks requiring physical endurance and agility under adverse conditions; ability to solve problems and make on-the-spot decisions; ability to evaluate reports and statistics; ability to maintain order in a potentially hostile environment; knowledge of the techniques and related safety practices for overseeing inmates in a controlled environment; some basic knowledge of technology and computer applications.
