Salary: $18.00 an hour.

Location: This position is in INDOT's LaPorte Sub District - LaPorte Unit, Michigan City Unit, Chesterton Unit, & Wanatah Unit.

Role Overview: Seasonal employees will perform tasks such as lawn care and buildings and grounds maintenance around the units. Employees will be filling in on work crews when needed.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Operate basic highway maintenance and traffic equipment to maintain, repair, and clean highways and right-of-way.

  • Move and load supplies and materials.

  • Perform emergency response activities such as: clean-up, traffic control, lane closures, placement of signs, and erecting barricades.

  • Perform equipment maintenance such as: minor repairs, preventative maintenance, refueling, and pre-trip inspections.

  • Comply with INDOT Safety Policies and Procedures.

  • Perform miscellaneous labor tasks.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • High school graduate or High School Equivalent (HSE) preferred.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

  • Required to submit to and pass a drug test as a condition of employment.

  • Must have the ability to move/lift 50 pounds.

  • Must have the ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing, and walking for long periods of time.

  • Must have the ability to endure exposure to inclement weather.

  • Must have the ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.

  • Must have the ability to work unpredictable and non-traditional hours as necessary to perform seasonal operations activities.

This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period
