Education / Training:

• MS in Mechanical Engineering with 3+ years of experience or BS in Mechanical Engineering with 8+ years of experience;

• Training in college level theoretical and applied mechanics, vibrations, fluid dynamics, metallurgy, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and manufacturing techniques;

• Training in computer applications.

Key Job Elements:

• Develop prototype testing and validation of engine components;

• Perform engine troubleshooting, data collection and failure analysis;

• Implement engineering changes;

• Initiate documents to provide engineering authority and to maintain math data;

• Develop solutions for engineering related product problems (Root Cause);

• Provide technical directions to support personnel;

• Work with engineering functions, suppliers, plant personnel and others to implement cost reduction, methods improvement, product improvements, and to support build programs;

• Execute product plans with supervisor guidance;

• Releases simple parts for production;

• Communicate information to and from internal and external customer organizations;

• Coordinate and consult with departments outside engineering such as manufacturing;

• Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products;

• Regular contact with others outside the work group;

• Travel as required.

Qualifications and Experience:

Required:

• High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult;

• Understanding of engineering theory and principles of design;

• Good oral and written communication skills;

• High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others;

• Understanding of design and manufacturing processes;

• Ability to work independently and with others;

• Knowledge of computer engineering software.

Preferred:

• Experience in working with diesel engines;

• Previous experience in engine component failure analysis and testing desirable;

• Knowledge and experience in engine valvetrain, EGR Systems, Exhaust manifold design, engine vibration, casting and welding processes.

Essential and Physical Activities Functions

• Strength – Position typically involves work in an office environment with occasional visits to an industrial environment. Frequent/constant sitting. Occasional standing and walking. Occasional light to medium-level lifting or carrying (up to 30 pounds);

• Motion – Position regularly requires standard motions associated with working in an office environment. Depending on assigned project, position may occasionally require motions involved in an industrial working environment, including some kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping;

• Vision/Hearing Requirements – Frequent verbal communications, including both talking and hearing;

• Work Environment – Position is typically located in an office environment with occasional visits to an industrial environment which may include a non-temperature-controlled environment, as well as exposure to noise (85+ decibels), occasional exposure to temperature changes, heavy machinery and other hazardous working conditions requiring the use of PPE;

• Emotional Demands – Very high level of responsibility. Must be able to coordinate diverse aspects of a project. Requires significant interpersonal skills while sustaining very high standards;

• Safety – Position may occasionally require the use of Personal Protective Equipment during visits to industrial areas.
