Job Overview:

General Description includes process design and analysis of an assigned scope of work in a McDermott project including complex process engineering design, analysis and development of an assigned scope of work in a project and/or specific complex deliverables such as conceptual process design, Pre-FEED, FEED and EPFC projects.

Strong working knowledge of many design techniques and analysis methods, and detailed knowledge of the content and application of standards, codes and guidelines as applicable.

Assists with training other engineers by providing instruction on new technologies and/or a specialization. Supports the development of new technologies and methods. Maintains and promotes a focus on McDermott’s end product whether engineering, fabrication or construction. Ensures effective communications among other engineering disciplines. Manages own time to meet agreed deadlines and budgets and develop plans for short-term work activities in own area. Ensures highest work priorities are addressed. Ensures effective management of change. Assumes responsibility for cost, schedule, quantity and budget control.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for preparing the following key deliverables, applicable as per the Project scope:

  • Process simulations / heat and material balance

  • Process flow diagrams (PFD)

  • Piping and instrument diagrams/mechanical flow diagrams (P&ID/MFD)

  • SAFE charts

  • Process safeguarding diagram

  • Equipment and instrument process datasheets

  • Process specifications

  • Operating philosophy and startup and operating manuals

  • Equipment list (process data)

  • Line list (process data)

  • Flare radiation and dispersion calculations

  • Depressurization and flare network study

  • Equipment and line sizing calculations

  • Fluid lists

  • Process studies

  • Act as checker for calculation and data sheet

  • Establish design criteria for P&IDs and ensure consistency across units

  • Develop Heat and Material Balance (H&MB) Simulations for multiple process units

  • Evaluate upset conditions on line list and establish design criteria for piping conditions

  • Provide assistance to pre-commissioning and commissioning on process related site queries

  • Participate in material selection review meeting

  • Assist in close out of HAZOP action items

  • Review turnover packages

  • Evaluate alternative Control Philosophy strategies

  • Support reliability, accessibility and maintainability (RAM) studies and specialists

  • Check the completed Operating Mannual

  • Aware of the Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) aspects of the work

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Accredited engineering degree as may be required by specific regions. Prefer BSChE degree

  • Typically has 7-15 years of detail process engineering experience in lead roles and/or specialization

  • Is familiar with process designs and unit operations

  • Is capable of appropriate use of computer applications and other specialized engineering tools

Preferred Qualifications and Education:

  • P.E. certificate of registration

  • Master Degree in chemical Engineering
