Make a Difference

The Vice President Operations will provide business oversight and executive leadership to designated services within the hospital (Community Howard and Westfield locations), including facilities, security, dietary, environmental services, clinical engineering, lab, materials management, imaging, pharmacy, and chaplaincy. This position is responsible for establishing operational standards, and outcomes, as well as ensuring adherence to applicable state / federal law and regulations. The position incumbent will work closely and productively with hospital and regional leaders, network product line leaders, medical staff, caregivers, vendors and the public. Serves as a member of the hospital Executive Leadership Team, in addition to various other standing and ad-hoc leadership meeting forums, committees and project teams.

The Vice President Operations also:

  • Stays informed of local and national healthcare trends, data (expected outcomes and nationally benchmarked indicators), and research.

  • Ensures that all assigned departments meet or exceed growth objectives (volumes), financial objectives (margins/cost per UOS) and value-based purchasing objectives (HCAHPS and core measures), and payer certifications as required.

Exceptional Skills and Qualifications

Applicants for this position should be able to collaborate with others in a team setting, have excellent communication skills, and a positive attitude toward problem-solving. As well as:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Healthcare or Business-related discipline required. Master of Business or Healthcare administration preferred. Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives preferred.

  • Minimum 7 years of recent or current progressive healthcare leadership experience, functioning organizationally at a department director level or higher.

  • Candidate will have experience and successful track record in operations, including, but not limited to refinement and execution of Network and regional business plans, line responsibilities for clinical services, regulatory compliance, performance management, and relationship building which includes patients, caregivers, physicians, peers, vendors, and the public.

  • Extensive background in performance improvement/lean is strongly preferred.

  • Must possess knowledge and demonstrate proficient leadership skillsets in health care strategy development, physician partnership, financial planning, and execution (including productivity measurements), and staff performance management.

  • Assessment of the communities the hospital serves.

  • Lead, support, communicate, and partner with the hospital Physician Executive as it relates to medical staff engagement and provision of services and outcomes.

  • Support successful and continued application of quality, safety, and process improvement initiatives utilizing Lean and related QI philosophies, tactics, and technology.

  • Support transformation of care and support delivery systems as it relates to areas of responsibility and how such functions connect with other services of the hospital, Region and Network. Priority is - Patients First.

  • Strategic vision with emphasis on identifying, securing, and operationalizing patient growth opportunities in the hospital.
