Engineering Technician II, Gasoline Engines
Work Mode: Onsite
Under the general supervision of the Application Center, perform a variety of complex tests on engines, carburetors, and components to determine life characteristics and failure mechanisms. Observe and record results of tests. Be part of a team responsible for leading innovations in gracious living by supporting the engine and engine component product development process.
Set up instrumentation and perform variety of complex tests as required. Observe and report any unusual results, which may affect outcome of tests or may lead to new or useful information.
Maintain complete records of all tests conducted, procedures used and result obtained. Analyze and make recommendations for minor design modifications.
Fabricate basic experimental parts from blueprints, sketches or verbal instructions. Operate lathe, drill press, welding equipment and other related tools to prepare necessary parts for testing.
Clean up test area and equipment. Perform basic setup and maintenance of test equipment as required. Notify supervisor or application lab test engineer of maintenance or calibration needs to keep equipment functional and compliant.
Maintain adequate inventory of supplies to perform tests as they are scheduled. Notify appropriate personnel of items that must be ordered.
Multi-task daily workload with direction and prioritization from lab supervisor and/or scheduler. Coordinate the work activities with other technicians as required. Communicate to ensure smooth transition between shifts.
Provide occasional aid in departmental audit functions. Prepare sample engines and components for testing by assembling, modifying or disassembling.
Makes basic product improvement recommendations based on test observations. Recommend enhancements of test systems or procedures.
Develop new test procedures of moderate complexity. Build or modify test equipment as necessary to carry out new procedures.
Perform other related duties as required.
Work to develop individual goals/objectives to support the department goals through the use of the Maximizing Performance Appraisal Process.
Personally demonstrate and drive the Kohler Core Competencies.
Ensure adherence to applicable product compliance requirements including but not limited to the Clean Air Act, California Code of Regulations and California Health and Safety Code.
Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, preferably including internal combustion engine theory and application is preferred, or 3-5 years on-the-job experience in an equivalent field and has the ability to work and communicate at a technical level. Capable of making sound decisions within above job description parameters.
Demonstrates willingness to put forth extra effort to improve the product, the facility, the work environment, and testing methods.
