Job Description

This is not a remote or Hybrid position. This position is on-site 5 days a week in Knoxville, TN.

The primary purpose of the IT Project Manager II at Pilot is to lead, oversee and ensure the successful management and delivery of single or multiple IT projects. Factors such as scope, time, resources and cost may require dynamic change management to deliver value. The IT Project Manager II will also contribute to the growth and maturity of the enterprise IT project management practice.

  1. Successfully guide IT projects through governance processes from inception through deployment, such as intake approvals, contract approvals, gating processes, alignment meetings with business and IT executives, internal review boards (e.g. security and enterprise architecture), leading project team meetings, and post-production support readiness.

  2. Review project proposals, requests and data to help determine time frames, funding needs and limitations, work plans to accomplish the project, and staffing requirements of available and unavailable business and IT resources for project phases.

  3. Identify milestones and required activities and tasks and ensure internal and external stakeholders understand these and deliver upon these through ongoing tracking and communication that you create and facilitate.

  4. Coordinate end-to-end project deployment plans and tasks including support transition documentation and awareness, functional and user-acceptance testing, end-user training, and organizational change management (OCM) plans.

  5. Lead or facilitate discovery sessions with business and IT stakeholders to define and refine project scope, requirements, or other needs.

  6. Gather, document and communicate key performance indicators (KPIs) and value objectives in writing with the project sponsors and leaders. Ensure these are tracked and that a plan for measurement is in place.

  7. Support, collaborate with, and build relationships with IT solution owners, product owners, business owners, project team(s), vendors, and other stakeholders.

  8. Establish project governance and communication plans in alignment with project sponsors and leaders (written and verbal/meeting). Modify these plans as needed throughout the project to ensure progress persists.

  9. Identify, manage, and mitigate risks. (e.g., financial, external, performance, technical, etc.).

  10. Create, maintain and ensure ongoing understanding and alignment of project artifacts including charters, resource plans, detailed project plans and phased schedules, budgets and status updates.

  11. Create and present documents that effectively communicate the purpose and attributes of the project at any given stage in the project, including presenting professional PowerPoint presentations to senior leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (e.g., business management, information technology, computer science, project management, etc.) required

  • Minimum three years’ IT project management experience required

  • Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred

  • Project Management Institute Agile Certified Professional (ACP) Certification preferred

  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM) certification preferred

  • Working knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC) management

  • Familiarity with software development frameworks such as Scrum and Kanban

  • Familiarity with project management tools such as Jira, Smartsheet and MS Project

  • Exhibits strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Suggests or determines appropriate project framework depending on project circumstances

  • Anticipates and reacts to stakeholder and project needs

  • Identifies risks and dependencies of projects, and facilitates mitigating those proactively

  • Identifies process inefficiencies and contributes to process improvement

  • Develops strong working relationships with stakeholders

  • Motivates team members and stakeholders
