Burrell Behavioral Health Human Resources (HR) Intern in Kirksville, Missouri

Job Description:

Job Summary:

The incumbent of this position will play an integral role in staff recruitment, new-hire orientation + onboarding, maintenance of employee information + records, training support, benefits administration, and more. At the end of the internship’s conclusion, the intern will have gained valuable Human Resources (HR) skills.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist with various HR related projects and initiatives.

  • Assist with staff recruitment efforts through posting jobs on company website and processing applications

  • Assist with performing annual background checks and driver’s checks on agency employees on a monthly basis.

  • Assist with new-hire orientation at site location on an as needed basis

  • Assist with personnel filing, including medical filing. Assist in creating new associate files. Assist in completing original filing. Assist in rotating year end files. Assist in closing terminated associate files and move to storage.

  • Assist in maintaining records involving trainings, certifications, licensure, mandatory requirements, and disciplinary/counseling forms.

  • Assist with reviewing and auditing personnel files.

  • Assist with reviewing and auditing I9 files.

  • Assist with reviewing, updating, and entering data into the human resources information software system (HRIS).

  • Assist with the creation and distribution of employee identification (ID) badges.

  • Assist HR Staff as needed with filing, copying, collating, mailings, and any special projects.

  • Present a professional image for the agency by courteously greeting visitors upon their entrance to the Human Resources department.

  • Demonstrates interest in long term and short term goals and objectives of the company

  • Other duties as assigned by leadership.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and skill in general office principles and practice.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast paced environment.

  • Thoroughly skilled in accuracy and highly detail oriented.

  • Skilled in effective communication with a diverse workforce.

  • Proficient in common word processing, spreadsheet, database, and web based applications.

  • Ability to work with information in a confidential manner.

Experience and Education Qualifications:

  • High School diploma with courses in computer applications and business practices; AND

  • Current student pursuing a degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, etc.

  • Must have experience working with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

  • Must have very strong attention to detail

  • Excellent customer service skills and service orientation

Employment Requirements:

  • Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record and abuse/neglect.

  • Completion of New Hire Orientation at the beginning of employment.

  • All training requirements including Relias Learning at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter.

Physical Requirements:

ADA Consideration - Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (exists 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, or pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
