Job Functions / Responsibilities The Sales/Applications Engineer's core responsibilities include but are not limited to: Responsible for being the primary engineering resource for the dealers' questions regarding truck applications and unique configurations. Identify and deliver buildable solutions, help drive new option content through the organization when needed and assist with custom solutions to meet challenging customer expectations. Respond to dealer inquiries regarding truck specifications and performance. Support design and manufacturing engineering on specific project designs, providing the voice of the customer and dealer. Answer dealers' telephone inquiries, email, job requests, and option approval requests (OARs). Review and coordinate the development of custom design requests. Provide engineering support of PremierSpec, Databook, and application programs. Travel to customer and dealer locations to provide sales support, truck order reviews or training. Travel requirement is typically 5-10% per year. Provide technical knowledge and content for dealer training and other Kenworth training courses. Occasional travel to support marketing events and industry trade shows. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications & Skills Bachelor of Science (BS) degree required; BSME or BSEE preferred. Fundamentals of engineering (FE) or professional engineer (PE) license desired. Heavy truck industry experience or related field knowledge required. Six Sigma experience desired (i.e. DFSS, Green Belt, Black Belt). Field service experience desired. Knowledge of Lean fundamentals and continuous improvement techniques a plus. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must; customer service oriented. Competency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite Experience with Creo or other CAD platforms is desired. Working knowledge with Salesforce CRM, Tableau, SQL databases and cloud computing a plus. Willingness and ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-task environment. General knowledge of truck or automotive systems/components and how they function/interact. Mechanical and/or electrical experience and aptitude. Project support and leadership for small to moderate size projects, including customer requests, process improvements, and product development support. Understanding the basic principles of computer/application program operation and willingness to support maintenance of existing applications and development of new processes and applications.
