Summary:

This job role is designed to serve both cancer patients and bariatric patients

Completes clinical assessments of bio-psychosocial needs, provides information and short-term therapeutic counseling to patients and their families in relation to social, psychological, financial and family situations. Assists in identification of barriers to care and provides cancer support resources to the patient and family.

Responsibilities:

Patients and families are served by providing social support services. Performs duties and conducts interpersonal relationships in a manner designed to project a positive image of the department and hospital. Insures that contacts with physicians and other healthcare team members is friendly, helpful, and courteous.

Qualifications

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Masters of Social Work from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education is required.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Background medical social worker preferred.

LICENSURE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION

  • LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) or LCSW-P (Licensed Clinical Social Worker – Provisional) who has passed the NC Licensing Exam.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and problem assessment when working with patients, families and the health care team. Ability to independently make decisions and provide clinical intervention.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Exposure to airborne pathogens requiring the use of protective equipment, some evening working hours due to support group meetings.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Frequent walking, standing and sitting throughout shift. Occasional lifting of patients with assistance. Speech, hearing and sight are necessities for patient interaction.
