Job Summary and Qualifications

The Respiratory Care Practitioner is under the direction of the Medical Director and the Clinical Supervisor. According to specific instructions and established departmental policies and procedures. The Respiratory Therapist must demonstrate the ability to assess, treat and care for patients who suffer from acute and chronic abnormalities of the respiratory system. The individual will have the skills and knowledge level required to provide care to patients as delineated in their scope of services. Employee will be responsible for knowledge and skill necessary to provide care based on physical, psychological, educational, safety and related criteria for the neonate, infant child, adolescent, adult and geriatric population.

This job description is not intended to be all inclusive; the employee will also perform other reasonably related business/job duties as assigned. Kingwood Medical Center reserves the right to revise job duties and responsibilities as the need arises.

What you will do in this role:

  • You will perform and document patient assessment, including breath sounds, airway patency, and cuff pressure. You will conduct diagnostic procedures to evaluate the need for, and response to, respiratory therapy.

  • You will administer respiratory care therapies, including oxygen delivery, aerosol medication delivery, and chest physiotherapy.

  • You will assist with placement of artificial airways. You will initiate, monitor, and maintain mechanical ventilation.

  • You will monitor patient for therapeutic response. You will notify provider and intervene as appropriate in the event of an unintended response.

  • You will assist with transportation of ventilator-dependent patients.

  • You will respond to emergent patient situations and ensure airway integrity and adequate ventilation during resuscitation as required.

What qualifications you will need:

Minimum Education and Training:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Care

Minimum Work Experience:

  • Minimum of one year hospital based experience preferred.

Skills:

  • Must be deemed clinically competent by the medical director of this institution to perform duties outlined in the description/performance evaluation

  • Have excellent communication skills.

  • Capable of working in a stressful environment

License/Registration/Certification:

  • Registered by the National Board of Respiratory Care

  • Hold a current BCLS certificate

  • ACLS, NRP, and PALS may be required within 90days of hire date, see Cardiopulmonary Director for clarification.

  • Current license to practice respiratory care by the State of Texas Department of Health required.
