Summary You will serve as a MAINTENANCE MECHANIC in the Production Resources Department (Code 900), Production Resources Manager (Code 901), Service Shop (Code 990) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD. Responsibilities You will perform a variety of tasks involved in the servicing and upkeep of vessels, and maintenance of radiologically controlled buildings. You will perform tasks in at least two or more of the following trades; electrical, air-conditioning, pluming, pipefitting, carpentry, painting, and insulation. You will prepare, pack, and transfer radiological material. You will produce requested carpentry and woodworking products to support shipyard maintenance work. You will plan and lay out the installation, modification, and repair of various new and existing piping systems and equipment. You will operate and maintain HVAC systems and ductwork/vent inside radiological controlled areas. You will remove and replace electrical fixtures and controls; making repairs; rearranging old or installing new outlets, relays, switches, light fixtures, and testing circuits. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION Experience interpreting and applying building plans and blueprints. Experience utilizing knowledge of mechanical theory, pneumatic, and hydraulic principles to repair electromechanical devices, as well as shop mathematics to plan, compute, and layout projects. Experience utilizing knowledge of the physical exterior and interior configurations of a large variety of submarines and surface ships. Experience utilizing tools and equipment common to the shipbuilding trade. Experience performing safety precautions, principals, and work methods associated with a maintenance mechanic. Experience performing a variety of tasks involved in the servicing, upkeep of vessels, maintenance of radiologically controlled buildings, and working in trade practices i.e. electrical, air-conditioning, plumbing, pipefitting, carpentry, painting, and insulation.
