Hourly rate $34.43

The Lab Technician under the direction of the Senior Lab Technician, assists in conducting tests and field investigations to obtain data for use by environmental, engineering and scientific personnel in determining sources and methods of controlling pollutants in air, water, and soil utilizing knowledge of agriculture, chemistry, meteorology, and engineering principles and applied technologies. The Lab Technician assists in conducting chemical and physical laboratory and field tests according to prescribed standards to determine characteristics or composition of solid, liquid, or gaseous materials and substances, using pH meter, chemicals, autoclaves, centrifuge spectrophotometer, microscope, analytical instrumentation, and chemical laboratory equipment. The Lab Technician assists in collecting samples of gases from smokestacks and collects other air samples and meteorological data to assist in evaluation of atmospheric pollutants; collects water samples from streams and lakes, or raw, semi-processed or processed water, industrial wastewater or water from other sources to assess pollution problems, and collects soil, silt, or mud to determine chemical composition and nature of pollutants. The Lab Technician assists in preparing samples for testing, records data, and information, installs, operates, and performs routine maintenance of gas and fluid flow instrumentation. Performs other duties as assigned.

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • One year experience in water or wastewater treatment

  • Must possess at least one of the following

  • Class II Water Operator license

  • Two years of recent water chemistry laboratory analysis experience in a water wastewater treatment plant laboratory certified in accordance with the Georgia Certification of Water and Wastewater Plan Operators and Laboratory Analysis Act, as amended and the rules promulgated there under or the equivalent from another state.

  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in conducting the following analyses: Atomic Absorption’ GC-MS; TOC; Flash Point; BOD; suspended Solids’ TCLP; or other related instruments and recordkeeping.

  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license.

  • Must always have and wear, hard-toed safety shoes which meet ASTM F2413-05 standards.

  • Successful candidate will be subject to a government security investigation and must continually meet eligibility requirements for access to all areas of Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay.
