Kilgore College Part-Time AEL Instructor – Math in Kilgore, Texas

Position Details:

The Adult Education and Literacy Math Instructor is responsible for providing comprehensive math instruction to adult learners in a variety of educational settings. The instructor will utilize effective teaching methodologies to help students develop essential math skills, improve their numeracy, and achieve their educational and career goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Development: Develop and implement an engaging and effective math curriculum aligned with Texas Adult Education and Literacy Content Standards, Kilgore College Adult Education and Literacy Syllabi, and learner needs.

  • Instruction: Deliver high-quality math instruction using various teaching methods, including lectures, discussions, group activities, individualized tutoring, and online learning programs.

  • Assessment: Assess student learning through a variety of methods, including TWC Adult Education and Literacy-approved assessments, quizzes, tests, and projects, to monitor progress and provide feedback.

  • Participant Support: Provide individual and small-group support to help students overcome learning challenges and achieve their math goals. Develop strategies to increase participant retention and engagement. Provide personalized support and encouragement to help participants stay motivated and achieve their goals. Actively engage participants in learning and create a positive and supportive classroom environment.

  • Collaboration: Collaborate with other adult education staff, community partners, and employers to ensure that instruction is relevant and meets the needs of students.

  • Professional Development: Participate in professional development activities to stay current with best practices in adult education and math instruction. As required by TWC Adult Education and Literacy, instructors are required to complete 15 hours annually.

  • Other duties as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, education, or a related field required.

  • Experience teaching mathematics to adult learners

  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles and effective instructional strategies

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse and inclusive environment

  • Proficiency in using technology for instruction and assessment

  • Positive role model

  • Proficiency with computers, technology (e.g. Microsoft Office applications, Google, Zoom, etc.), and office equipment

  • Experience teaching adults and/or facilitating groups, working with educationally and/or economically disadvantaged adults

  • Experience working in collaborative or team environments

  • Maintains confidentiality of records

  • Dress is appropriate to the work environment

  • Maintains a safe, orderly, and clean environment

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in adult education, English, education, or a related field

  • Certification in adult education or math instruction

  • Experience working with adult learners from diverse backgrounds

  • Knowledge of adult education standards and assessment tools

    Salary Range & Fringe Benefits:

  • Salary for adjunct faculty members is based upon level of education and range from $1,800 per 3-hour course for a master's degree to $2,000 per 3-hour course for a doctorate.
