A Carter Lumber Staff Accountant is responsible for compiling information to help prepare consolidated financial statements and analysis.  This position is responsible for identifying, recording, and reporting various capital expenditures and other financial accounting duties as directed.  Effective communication with the field and internal departments is mandatory for the success of this position.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Accounting or equivalent experience

  • Working knowledge of financial statements and fixed asset accounting

  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects concurrently

  • Strong interpersonal skills and be able to work in a team setting

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel preferred but not necessary

Responsibilities

Accounting

  • Prepare journal entries, reconciliations and supporting schedules in accordance with GAAP.

  • Ensure that fixed assets, including self-constructed projects, are recorded in the fixed asset system and accounting ledger.  All assets need to be properly accounted for and reconciled.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve discrepancies in fixed asset records.

  • Other ad hoc projects as it relates to consolidated accounting.

Reporting

  • Responsible for maintaining, preparing, and ensuring accuracy of reporting for the capital budgeting process for all capital expenditures.

  • Personal Property Tax filings related to all Carter Lumber entities.

  • Participate in financial audits by providing documentation and support as needed.

  • Responsible for creating and maintaining various reports as required by management.
