Temporary assignment – 1 Year

Project Overview: The Mobile Launcher 2 (ML2) Project is the design and construction of a launch platform for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The purpose of ML2, located at Kennedy Space Center (KSC), is to provide a launch platform for the Space Launch System (SLS), an advanced launch vehicle that will fill America’s need for deep space missions. ML2 includes many different subsystems that must operate and fit within the constraints of the structure and provide physical interface with KSC launch sites’ ground systems. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs.

Position Summary:

  • Originate and check structural engineering deliverables, such as steel calculations, specifications, material requisitions.

  • Reviews and coordinates technical documents with/from other engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction.

  • Prepare technical reports related to specific design issues. Participate in technical meetings and perform intra-discipline coordination.

Qualification – Education:

  • BS in structural/civil engineering from an accredited university or college, and 6+ years progressive related experience preferred.

  • EIT as minimum requirement and PE license preferred

Qualification – Experience:

  • Work experience for BS should be directly related to the detailed design of steel structures.

  • Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally.

  • Proficient using Microsoft Word and Excel.

Qualification – Preferred:

  • Proficient in the use of structural analysis software such as GTSTRUDL, STAAD, ANSYS, or SAP2000.

  • Proficient in the use of Mathcad or similar software.

  • Experience with CADD applications, such as MicroStation or AutoCad.

  • Experience with basic engineering deliverables, such as drawings, specifications, and material requisitions

  • Experience with methods of construction for steel structures.

  • Experience in the structural design of Nuclear and/or DOD/DOE facilities.

  • Experience with managing discipline software life cycle documentation.

  • Necessary skills to present technical subjects with competence and confidence.
