Catholic Health Initiatives Paramedic in Kearney, Nebraska

Overview

Established by the Sisters of the St. Francis in 1924, CHI Health Good Samaritan is a 268-bed regional referral center in Kearney Nebraska. At CHI Health Good Samaritan, you’ll find an advanced level trauma center that also offers AirCare emergency helicopter transport and an ambulance program providing long distance and local 911 service. Among our many other services are cardiac care including open-heart surgery, a level II neonatal intensive care unit, a nationally accredited cancer center, comprehensive neurosurgery, advanced orthopedic program, and inpatient and outpatient mental health services at our free-standing Richard Young Behavioral Health facility.

CHI Health Good Samaritan has provided paramedic-level emergency ambulance service (https://www.chihealth.com/content/chi-health/good-samaritan/services/emergency-department/ambulance-services.html) to the City of Kearney and Buffalo County Fire District #1 since 1988. Our paramedics also provide mutual aid response to area ambulance and rescue squads in order to bring the emergency department closer to the patient.

Responsibilities

*Up to $5000 Sign-on Bonus for external candidates*

  • Functions within the scope of practice of a Paramedic as defined within Nebraska and Iowa state regulations and listed in the Approved Skills and Procedures for Licensed EMS Providers document. This position does take a patient assignment, but must be over seen by an RN.

  • Provides patient care and performs patient care procedures as listed on the attached Approved Skills and Procedures for Licensed EMS Providers.

  • Responds to Code 99 and trauma activations in the ED and, when requested, on the hospital campus.

  • Provides patient transportation within the Emergency Department and on the hospital campus as requested.

  • Enters patient orders into the hospital computer system when directed.

  • Assists with obtaining patient demographic and billing information.

  • Maintains strict patient confidentiality.

  • Maintains professional and positive attitude at all times to staff and patients.

  • Follows policies and procedures of CHI Health.

  • Maintains a customer-service, patient-focused environment.

  • Advises ED Medical Director and OD-ED regarding any practice issues or patient care concerns.

  • Attends staff meetings, in-services, and other departmental meetings as requested.

  • Maintains compliance with licensure and certification requirements.

  • Provides evidence of on-going continuing education activities.

  • Other duties as assigned by leader and organization within the scope of practice of the paramedic.

Qualifications

  • Must have a valid certificate to function as an EMT-P (EMT-Paramedic) in the state of Nebraska

  • Must have and maintain active membership on a Rescue Service in the state of Nebraska

  • BLS or BLS(Basic Life Support) instructor certification through American Heart Association

  • ACLS or ACLS(Advanced Cardiac Life Support) instructor certification through American Heart Association

  • PALS (Pediatric Cardiac Life Support) or PALS instructor certification within 6 months of start date

Preferred:

  • One year of experience as an EMS provider on a licensed ambulance service.

  • Successful completion of a Critical Care Paramedic Training course

Pay Range

$21.23 - $29.20 /hour
