Job Description:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or relevant field of study or advanced accounting knowledge through a combination of work experience and intellectual instruction required.

Work Experiences:

  • 2+ years of accounting principles and practices experience

Skills:

  • Ability to consistently apply sound judgment, and operate professionally, effectively, and ethically as an individual contributor and member of a team.

  • Ability to establish rapport and maintain harmonious working relationships.

  • Ability to work well under pressure while consistently meeting time sensitive deadlines.

  • Analytical with strong problem-solving abilities and creative resolution skills

  • Ability to remain organized, pay attention to detail, and meet critical deadlines.

  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to interface effectively with individuals at various levels

  • Ability to prioritize workload, meet multiple deadlines simultaneously in a fast paced, frequently changing environment.

  • Ability to work independently, as well as effectively contribute to a team environment.

  • Strong Microsoft office program experience, including Word and Excel

  • Acceptable level of hearing and vision to perform job duties.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in various initiatives, including new system implementation, updates, and upgrades.

  • Identify and implement strategies to improve productivity and efficiency, not only for yourself, but in other areas of the Company that you are impacted by.

  • Prepare financial entries by compiling and analyzing account information.

  • Work with third party vendors to establish data and reporting requirements needed by Academy.

  • When new third-party vendors are obtained decide the best method for reconciling the related accounts and work with all parties involved to implement procedures

  • Ensure appropriate controls exist to assure the integrity of reported results.

  • Maintain accounting controls and recommend policy and procedure improvements.

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications.

  • Stay abreast of current developments in accounting and the retail industry for financial impact.

  • Assess the validity of the accruals submitted to Accounting and work with counterparties to address any issues or corrections identified.

  • Perform a variety of complicated tasks relying on experience, judgment, and research.

  • Responsible for the completion and maintenance of the general ledger and financial reports

  • Analyze balance sheet accounts to assess risks and develop an action plan to mitigate those risks.

  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and perform variance analysis.

  • Provide analysis and explanations for unusual items in general ledger accounts and resolve/correct those items independently.

  • Substantiate financial transactions by auditing documents.

  • Prepare financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.

  • Maintain confidentiality of Academy’s financial information

  • Develop a thorough understanding of Academy policies, procedures, and safety rules.

  • Duties may change; associates may be required to perform other duties as assigned.

  • Adhere to company work hours, policies, procedures, and rules governing professional staff behavior.

  • Regular attendance required.
