Summary

This Staff Accountant will play a vital role in the processing, reviewing, and analysis of sales for the organization. Monthly responsibilities include posting and review of monthly sales and commissions, account reconciliations, review of customer deposits, and the analysis of financial statement variances and trends. This position interacts regularly with sales and management of the organization, inside and outside of accounting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare journal entries and imports throughout the month and assist with monthly close.

  • Analyze account balances, prepare reconciliations, and propose adjusting entries as needed.

  • Initiate and maintain process documentation for all areas of responsibility. Update as needed.

  • Skillfully use computerized accounting and financial management systems.

  • Identify problem areas or situations, evaluate root cause(s), and take appropriate action to resolve issues.

  • Accurately post sales and calculate commissions as delivery receipts become available, ensuring they meet our revenue recognition rules.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with regional and national sales team.

  • Work with other accountants to review and reconcile all GL accounts associated with wholegood sales and Inventories.

  • Prepare monthly negative, low, and high margin analysis for the monthly Gross Margin Review.

  • Assist with the year-end and quarterly audits, providing detailed reconciliations, roll-forwards, and analyses of account balances and trends.

  • Other analysis and special projects as assigned.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in Accounting or Finance.

Experience

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

  • 1-2 years of experience in a manufacturing or retail company or

  • 1-2 years of experience in a Big 4 or regional accounting firm

Skills:

  • Very Detail Oriented.

  • Great communication skills.

  • Knowledge of Excel

Working Conditions

  • This is a hybrid role. This job requires the person to work in the Kansas City office, with the possibility of remote work 2-3 days a week.
