Burns & McDonnell Senior Mechanical Engineer - Industrial Water / Wastewater (Kansas City) in Kansas City, Missouri

Description

Burns & McDonnell's Water Global Practice in Kansas City, MO is seeking to hire Senior Mechanical Engineers to support projects in a variety of industry sectors, including the strategic areas of renewable fuels and water reuse.

  • Work includes conceptual studies, detailed design, field installation, and construction support for water and wastewater projects in the oil, gas and petrochemical industries.

  • Will be assigned as the lead mechanical engineer for EPC (Engineer, Procure and Construct) projects, occasionally may work under other leads with equipment package/contract responsibility.

  • Maintains and promotes a focus on safety and Burns & McDonnell’s final deliverables.

  • Must demonstrate effective communications with other engineering disciplines and must be adept at management of change.

  • Assumes responsibility for equipment engineering scope, schedule, and budget for EPC Projects.

  • Mentors and guides less experienced engineers.

  • Prepares mechanical equipment and packaged equipment specifications and data sheets, RFQ’s, technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations. Primary equipment includes pumps, compressors, pressure vessels and internals, tanks, and third party designed and packaged equipment.

  • Reviews mechanical equipment vendor drawings, and data. Interfaces with suppliers, clients, other engineering disciplines, detailers/designers.

  • Prepares construction/installation scope of work for mechanical equipment. Participates in the development of P&ID's, package specifications, construction specifications, project schedules, project budgets, project staffing planning, and construction planning.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.

  • Or Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

  • Requires at least 7 years of experience in mechanical engineering preparing mechanical equipment and packaged equipment specifications and data sheets, RFQ’s, technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations for equipment in the petrochemical and/or oil & gas industry. Renewables experience is considered a plus.

  • Professional Engineering License (PE) preferred.

  • Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.

  • Must have familiarity with mechanical equipment design codes (ASME, ANSI, API, PIP, NACE).

  • Must have the ability to travel overseas to monitor project execution with overseas engineering partners (occasional).

  • Must be willing and eligible to obtain or currently hold a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).

  • Must have the ability to lead the execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment. Previous consulting experience preferred.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Must be capable of leading projects and delegating work tasks to teams.

  • EPC project experience as a lead mechanical engineer is highly preferred.
