Description

Responsible for the direction and leadership of the Protection Application Section (PAS) within the Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Global Practice in Kansas City. Properly apply industry standards and NERC regulatory compliance for the protection of system equipment, including power busses, power transformers, HV/MV circuit breakers, capacitor banks, reactors, transmission lines, and distribution feeders. Create/review power system models and perform protective relay coordination analysis using ASPEN OneLiner and/or Siemens CAPE software. Create design calculations, including short circuit calculations, current transformer performance and ratio selection, overcurrent element coordination, zone-distance element selection and coordination, and relay load ability calculations. Develop native relay setting files using SEL’s AcSELerator and GE’s Enervista software programs. Provide engineering support for construction and commissioning activities related to design deliverables such as Creating fault simulation test files. Provide resource management of team. Identify training needs and develop training programs in collaboration with technical teams and business line leadership. Work with Human Resources and staff to identify, prepare, communicate, and monitor performance plans for employees with areas of needed improvement. Communicate and coordinate regularly with Protection Applications leadership in all of the T&D global practice regarding staffing, clients, pursuits, initiatives, and overall business line strategy. Proactively work with the HR Recruiting team to identify and recruit candidates that align with our MacCulture principles and the Protection Application Section’s growth strategy. Review the work of lower-level electrical engineers and provide guidance on project specifications. Act as primary contact for both internal and external client-side communication. No hire / fire authority.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Electrical engineering or a related field plus a minimum of 3 years of related experience.

  • In the alternative, the employer will accept a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field plus a minimum of 5 years of related experience.

  • Professional Engineer License is required.

  • Related experience must include the design, maintenance, protection and control, construction, performance analysis and Quality Control, and project management of electrical transmission and distribution systems for high voltage substations (69-500kV).

  • Must have experience identifying and managing the scope of a project, including voltage drop, conduit fill, equipment selection, battery sizing, and project schedules and costs.

  • Must have experience preparing technical specifications and drawings, which includes designing panel layout, microprocessor-based relays, one lines, three lines, schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, and AC and DC schematics; required experience includes ensuring all technical plans, designs, and drawings adhere to client specifications, project scope, and industry best practices.

  • Must have experience managing the client relationship for project work and overseeing project finances, resource alignment, subcontractor relationships, and adherence to schedule.

  • Must have experience managing cross-disciplinary teams, ensuring staffing resources have the proper training and oversight to effectively complete the project deliverables on time and within the identified project scope.

  • National travel required up to 10% of the time.
