UH Lakewood Medical Center is located between Kansas City and Lee’s Summit, Missouri, offering residents of Eastern Jackson County access to a modern community hospital with a continuum of outpatient services designed to meet the needs of families. UH Lakewood specializes in high-risk maternal and child care, and serves as one of the few Kansas City metro area institutions accredited by The Joint Commission in Orthopedics and Palliative Care. UH Behavioral Health is the KC metro area’s largest, most comprehensive provider of mental health services. We also offer psychiatric inpatient care, and we deliver therapeutic services through our community outreach clinics. We are a leader in the Trauma-Informed Care Movement, and provide training, coaching and consulting to outside organizations.

Job Description

Provides social work services to patients/residents in acute, ambulatory or long term care settings. Services to patients/residents and their families include: identification of psychosocial needs, psychosocial assessment, pre-admission screening and admitting services for long term care patients, discharge planning, crisis intervention, information and referral, protective services, and patient/resident education. Functions as a member of a multidisciplinary team for patient/resident care. Duties may also include assistance with program development, evaluation, professional education, or supervision of students and BSW staff.

LCSW Requirements

  • Master’s degree in social work from a school of social work accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)

  • Current State of Missouri License as a Licensed Social Worker

  • Two years post-graduate clinical experience

  • Knowledge of theory and practice of social work at the MSW level and have basic research skills

  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills and ability to do public speaking

  • Ability to work effectively with physicians, other health care professionals and culturally diverse patients

  • If driving is a requirement for the employee, he/she must meet the requirements specified in the Fleet Driving Safety and Compliance Policy and must continue to meet these requirements as a condition of employment

  • Previous experience in health or mental health care preferred

LMSW Requirements

  • Master’s degree in social work from a school of social work accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)

  • MO LMSW or MO LMSW eligible (LMSW eligible Social Workers must obtain licensures by completion of the introductory period of employment – or within 90 days)

  • Knowledge of theory and practice of social work at the MSW level and have basic research skills

  • Must have the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and with patients of various ages and cultural backgrounds

  • Must have excellent written/verbal communication skills

  • Previous health care experience preferred
