Essential Duties and Tasks

  • Maintains the overall bottomer operation.

  • Verifies each scheduled production or prior to starting set-up

  • Orders components based on shop order requirements.

  • Removes and returns bottomer parts, accessories, and components not needed for current order run to proper storage area.

  • Performs all bottomer set-ups and adjustments as required.

  • Leave bottomer area ready for oncoming shift; communicates issues with next operator.

  • Monitors job/materials and communicates concerns to Supervision to prevent downtime due to tubes not being available.

  • Segregates scrap and waste by container for disposal or baling.

  • Maintains adequate level of glue in pans, drums, or hot melt applicator hopper.

  • Make all possible preparations for next scheduled order.

  • Works toward maintenance and cleanliness of bottomer and adjacent area as required.

  • Functions as Team Leader and directs the overall activities of the crew.

  • Performs First Article of Inspection at bag set-ups; perform 30-minute tube teardowns and other quality procedures (visual checks, adjustments, heat seals, fold checks, etc.) needed to maintain bag quality.

  • Assures the continuing optimum operation efficiency of the bottomer team by performing any bottoming job duties that might normally be performed by other team members (example, feeds bottomer, inspects and stacks bags, clean-up, reclaim of bags, etc.).

  • Informs management of any substandard materials or any apparent mechanical or electrical repairs needed.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

  • Associates degree from an accredited College or trade school preferred

  • Minimum three years’ experience working within the printing industry (preferred)

  • Able to work Overnight shift 7pm - 7am

  • Basic math, reading, and writing skills.

  • Basic computer skills; data entry and retrieval.

  • Ability to read and understand a tape measure.

  • Mechanically inclined

  • Must complete Safety Orientation, Departmental Safety Training and OSHA Standards Training

  • Good time management skills.

  • Reports to work on time and is dependable.

  • Hand-eye coordination to perform major tasks of the position.

  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished either written, orally, or in diagram form.

  • Ability to effectively answer questions or present information to others
