Houston's Inc Material Handler in Kansas City, Missouri

Position Purpose:

Receive, ship, load, unload, re-warehouse, and distribute all materials, supplies, and equipment necessary to assist with the timely fulfillment and delivery of products and distribution and administrative functions within the organization.

Functions or Duties:

  • Perform daily picking responsibilities by following verbal instructions and/or written directions from a handheld barcode scanner.
  • Recognize and identify the correct product by scanning with a handheld barcode scanner or by matching the product item number on the box to the location label.
  • Perform basic visual quality inspection on products.
  • Identify and properly capture lot codes on consumable items.
  • Uses the handheld barcode scanner to adjust products out of inventory due to damage and request new location labels.
  • Identify and report any items found stocked in the wrong location during the picking process.
  • Stack product on a pallet in a manner that allows safe transport throughout the warehouse during the picking process.
  • Safely operates an electric riding pallet jack and a manual pallet jack to pull and load picked items onto a pallet.
  • Safely operates a pallet wrapping machine to secure the product.
  • Occasionally performs receiving functions such as unloading and unpacking goods to be received. Verifies counts and performs basic visual inspection for quality and rejects unsatisfactory or damaged products.
  • Matches incoming product with a PO number or transfer number, utilize the handheld barcode scanner to create receiving travelers, and attach them to the correct product.
  • Reads and follows directions from pallet travelers.
  • Adheres to safety guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and Skills
  • Ability to follow written and/or verbal directions and ask for clarification, if necessary.
  • Ability to read, write and speak basic English.
  • Ability to use basic computer functions.
  • Ability to perform basic math functions.
  • Familiar with the general concept and layout of a warehouse.
  • Understands selling units (cases, each, etc.)
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently, and perform at a high level in a fast-paced environment.
  • Team-player who can also work independently.
  • Occasionally use a manual pallet jack to transport material up to 2000 pounds.
  • May occasionally drive a forklift.
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Warehouse experience preferred, but not required.

While performing the duties, this position is frequently required to:

  • Stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Lift, load, push, pull, and carry products weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Climb stairs or ladders, as well as squatting, kneeling, bending, and reaching at shoulder level.
  • The work involves repetitive motion.
  • Exposure to cold, heat, loud noises, and machinery while performing job duties.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
