Job Responsibilities

Reporting to theVice President Client Accounting, the Manager of Client Accounting will have oversight of and be the face of client accounting for our Missouri operations. Leading a team of 8 associates, the Manager of Client Accounting will be responsible for building a strong team culture and execute an aggressive change management agenda. The Manager of Client Accounting will interface with internal and external clients on all transactional and financial accounting and reporting related matters and partner with our management teams to deliver exceptional service.

The Manager of Client Accounting will have a dotted line report to the President of our Missouri operations; supporting performance management of Client Accounting resources as well as financial systems and process related initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills & Proficiencies

The Manager of Client Accounting must possess a high degree of accountability, sense of urgency, commitment and ownership. The manager will prioritize tasks to set action plans to achieve process improvements. This position will collaborate with teams to develop and implement best practice policies and procedures to meet set objectives.

This is not a traditional financial director role. The successful candidate will be passionate about gaining efficiency through process change while creating a positive team environment where we can recruit, develop and retain talent.

The Manager of Client Accounting must have excellent communication skills to partner with operations, interact with clients and be a knowledge leader in both financial accounting and the condominium industry. Sound business acumen and the ability to present practical solutions is a key requirement.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Client Accounting

  • Lead a financial accounting team of 8 associates to ensure timely and accurate preparation of client financial statements supporting our goal to deliver the best financial accounting services in our Missouri market
  • Manage all aspects of team performance including, i) portfolio allocations; ii) workload balancing; and iii) timely submission of client financial statements and other deliverables
  • Identify gaps of process and systems, and as a result, develop and implement standard operating procedures consistent with our service delivery model
  • Recruit, develop and retain a highly engaged and empowered team that is scaled to grow
  • Coach associates on day-to-day activities and perform periodic individual associate performance reviews
  • Review client financial statements for accuracy and completeness
  • Maintain a strong control environment and be open to process change; evaluating opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Maintain an ongoing awareness of the regulatory environment and issues that could affect our business model or our clients
  • Responsible for recurring journal entries
  • Charge on monthly recurring charges to homeowners
  • Process all yearly tax returns and submit to the company accountant
  • Responsible for completing the yearly Real Estate Taxes
  • Coordinate with Auditors the reports needed for the yearly property audits
  • Research Title Company checks
  • Responsible for final resignation checks for our properties
  • Closing out of the prior year into retained earnings
  • Assist with collection calls

Other

  • Local Lead on national and regional systems implementation; Collaborate on and implement processes aligned to new financial accounting system
  • Support onboarding and transition of new clients and provide excellent customer service to support client retention
  • Be a financial accounting thought leader to provide: i) accounting-based training to community managers and directors and ii) support financial analysis and advice to clients, as required. Support and drive client budgeting process in partnership with management team
  • Identify opportunities to monetize incremental work effort and support development of new client value added products

  • Anticipate needs across the company and manage department resources to provide timely and reliable service to internal customers; prioritize and communicate when workload or requests for support exceed departmental capacity
  • Manage in a no surprises manner; proactively communicate financial issues to leaders
  • Safeguard the company’s assets
  • Other Tasks and Duties as Assigned

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree plus an accounting designation is essential together with prior experience in a financial operations management role.

Salary:

  • $85,000 - $95,000 / year

Travel

Some travel to client sites within Kansas City area. Minor travel out of state.
