Honeywell Lead Mechanical Engineer in Kansas City, Missouri

Summary

The Lead Engineer (Mechanical) position will serve as a technical lead for the Global Security Modeling and Simulation engineering team, with a focus on simulating complex mechanical products in preparation for product fabrication and testing. This position will interface with engineering peers, program management, technical management, and internal/external customers. This role will plan, conduct, and coordinate a broad range of complex research, development, design, manufacturing, or quality assignments requiring extensive knowledge of advanced techniques and principles and their application to specific projects. The selected candidate will work with management to execute project scope while mentoring and developing early in career engineers. They will work under administrative direction only with considerable latitude for unreviewed actions or decisions.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Evaluate product design & manufacturing processes using simulation technologies with a focus on FEA/FEM and CFD.

  • Develop and improve techniques for analyzing product design, reliability, manufacturability, and the broader integration of simulation tools with system modeling tools.

  • Demonstrated excellence in effective communication, interaction, and presentation skills with all disciplines of internal/external engineering and management.

  • Advises and consults as technical expert to other technical and administrative personnel to drive and implement short and long-term projects.

  • Estimates labor requirements and schedules work to meet completion dates and technical requirements.

  • Prepares comprehensive proposals and cost estimates, evaluates progress and results, and recommends and directs the implementation of major revisions in approaches and objectives; may set, modify and/or negotiate schedule changes and dates.

  • Leads, directs, influences or coordinates the work of a major project, program, product or component for a section or department of functional division with responsibility for project objectives, completion dates, and technical specifications.

  • Produces substantial impact based on technical advances and innovation and/or improvement in existing technologies. Recommends and directs the implementation of major revisions in approaches and objectives.

  • Negotiates complex states of work, schedules, budgets, and anticipates and resolves issues regarding customer relationships.

  • Champions initiatives to resolve critical processes and technological-related issues.

  • Leads, trains and mentors Sr Engineer and Engineer III on various test processes and procedures.

  • Conducts activities in a safe and healthy manner and works in accordance with established HS&E requirements to ensure the protection of employees, the public, and the environment. Takes actions necessary to stop work when an unsafe condition or action is identified. Every employee has the right and responsibility to stop work when unsafe conditions or actions are identified.

You Must Have

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program or bachelors of science degree in Physics from and accredited program.

  • Seven or more years of relevant experience in engineering, analytical, or related technical activities.

  • US Citizenship required in order to obtain and maintain US Department of Energy Q-Level Security clearance.

We Value

  • Experience with Abaqus, Ansys, and Fluent.

  • Expertise in nonlinear behavior of materials (plasticity, viscoelasticity/plasticity, hyperelasticity)

  • Experience in developing and applying a wide range of verification and validation tools, sensitivity analysis, and uncertainty quantification.

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, or Computer Science.
