Job Description

FLSA Status: Non Exempt (Hourly)

Location: Kansas City, MO

Summary :

• Primary responsibility is to perform disassembly type functions using hand or power tools, to disassemble process or repair salvageable parts from heavy trucks and equipment; to organize and to transport disassembled parts and equipment to specified locations within the salvage yard in order that they may be located for sale to customers, and to perform the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintains contact with supervisor to receive instructions.

• Inspects trucks or equipment to disassemble and organizes tools for the task.

• When assigned, performs disassembly of trucks and equipment.

• Provides own tools to disassemble trucks and equipment

• Drives or moves truck or equipment to assigned location for disassembly.

• Evaluates self-work to ensure compliance with work instructions.

• Uses all necessary test equipment to evaluate salvage of truck and equipment parts.

• Performs cleaning operations using detergent baths, degreasing, and grit brushing.

• Must have a working knowledge and understanding of safety requirements and practice them.

• Must work with and for all departments in harmony.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

This position requires a clean driving record to remain insurable. A current fork truck license is required before operating any fork truck for Custom Truck

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of two years salvage yard experience or high level of mechanically skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic disassembly and repair of heavy trucks and equipment.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents; ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Must also possess the ability to speak effectively with customers or employees of organization.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed and uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. High skill level mechanically disassembling heavy trucks and equipment. Highly detail oriented and organized in work. Must be dependable and reliable. Acceptable written and oral communication skills. Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with a customer service focus with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving and results. Must have initiative and the ability act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from the salvage yard manager to accomplish objectives. Must possess a strong desire to learn.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to walk; to climb stairs, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to work in various positions such as kneeling, squatting, crawling and working from a prone position. Frequent lifting and moving of materials, occasionally in difficult work positions. The employee is regularly required to move about the truck or equipment and other vehicles. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The work environment is subject to dirty and sometimes loud working conditions and safety glasses and hearing protection is required while performing certain tasks. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
