Serco Environmental Associate Chemist in Kansas City, Kansas

Position Description

If you love high profile and challenging projects supporting environmental work - Serco has a great opportunity for you. This entry level Environmental Associate Chemist position involves laboratory testing and support for environmental sample matrices including but not limited to air, water, sludge, and soil. This position is located in our Environmental Laboratory in Kansas City.

The Environmental Associate Chemist will assist with the performance of established air and chemical analyses, instrument calibrations and maintenance, handling field and laboratory equipment, and supply inventory. We will provide the ideal candidate with on-the-job training and offer a collaborative environment with opportunities for learning and expanding knowledge and skills.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide support to the inorganic extractions, metals preparation, and wet chemistry labs as well as the air laboratory.

  • Be responsible for supporting the analytical laboratory by cleaning glassware, checking inventory, analyzing samples, validating data, and supporting sample and waste consolidation and disposal.

Qualifications

To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline and 0-2 years of relevant work experience.

  • An Active Public Trust Clearance is required prior to employment.

  • Eligibility is required to be considered for sponsorship.

  • Knowledge of laboratory and experimental procedures as well as ability to apply this knowledge in performing assigned laboratory task is required.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures and perform mathematical calculations is required.

  • The ability to provide instrumentation and laboratory support for tasks such as instrument setup, calibration, testing, maintenance, maintaining/updating equipment SOPs and manuals and analysis.

  • A valid driver's license with a safe driving record.

  • The ability to lift 50 lbs.

  • The ability to work in all weather conditions (hot/cold temperatures, sun/rain).

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Meticulous attention to detail.

  • The Ability to multi-task.

Desired Skills :

  • Environmental training (e.g., 40- or 24- Hour HazMat certification), familiarity with air monitoring/environmental sample collection devices and maintenance, and data recording and processing.

  • Familiarity with laboratory proceedures and equipment.
