Logan Health RN Supervisor - Nursing Operations in Kalispell, Montana

Job Description Summary:

This position assumes a visible leadership role and is responsible for overseeing patient care and administrative activities. Acts as the on-site administrator in the organization after normal business hours and has the authority and responsibility for administrative decisions and appropriate notification of the Administrator on Call (AOC). This position will continually evaluate quality and effectiveness of patient care, clinical judgment, productivity, staffing, and education.

Qualifications:

  • Current Montana RN License or a multi state compact license with authorization to practice nursing within the state of Montana; required. BSN degree preferred.

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ recent acute care nursing experience required.

  • Current CPR’s required:

  • Healthcare Provider CPR, PALS or ENPC, and;

  • ACLS or EP-ACLS certification.

  • Minimum of one (1) year leadership required.

  • Possess medical/clinical knowledge and technical skills for respective department(s)/unit(s) required.

  • Must be a self-starter, pro-actively identifying and following through with opportunities to mentor, coach, support, and assist staff.

  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, possess critical thinking skills and be able to set priorities and function as part of a team as well as independently.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.

Job Specific Duties:

  • Assumes a visible leadership role and is responsible for overseeing patient care and administrative activities and care delivery for inpatient units at Logan Health (LH). Maintains a house-wide perspective and makes decisions based on needs of all units.

  • Conducts annual performance appraisals according to HR guidelines for assigned staff. Provides regular, scheduled feedback to employees regarding performance. In partnership with leadership, contributes to hiring, corrective action and termination decisions of assigned staff. Conducts orientation and participates in investigations as requested. Communicates with staff to provide immediate feedback to correct deviations.

  • Coordinates the routine flow of scheduled, direct, and emergency patient admissions to efficiently place patients in the appropriate care location, maximize capacity, and improve satisfaction for patients, families, and referring providers.

  • Collaborates with unit leaders and staff of all departments to promote efficient shift operations.

  • Assesses available staffing resources for each unit, taking into consideration census, levels of acuity, unscheduled absences and the skill level of assigned staff. Based on needs evaluation of resources, calls staff in, redeploys, reassigns, or downsizes to meet patient care needs.

  • Provides daily oversight of staff and patient care.

  • Coordinates delivery of patient care in a professional manner in compliance with hospital and nursing policies and procedures.

  • Positively makes administrative decisions in the absence of the Administrative Team while leading and supervising the operational flow of the LH campus. Communicates appropriately with the Administrative Team and the Administrator On Call.

  • Coordinates the organizational response during times of high census, collaborating with Administration, unit leadership and other support service departments to prioritize care and maximize throughput efforts.

  • Performs within the scope and standards of practice for Registered Professional Nurses in the state (as set forth by the current State Board of Nursing regulations, the American Nurses Association, and professional organizations specific to specialty to guide practice and standards within the work place).

  • Responds to all on site emergencies (Code Blue, Stroke, Rapid Response), and acts as a clinical resource. Coordinates care for employees and visitors who are ill or injured during non-business hours. Attends post fall huddles identifying opportunities for improvement and provides support and education as needed.

  • Promptly and effectively investigates all patient/visitor occurrences and/or complaints and assesses impact on clinical status. Provides on-site counseling and mentoring of staff as required. Provides service recovery for complaints and/or grievances and appropriately informs Risk Management and/or the patient advocate. D evelops, revises, and ensures compliance with hospital/departmental policy and procedures, standards of care, and professional practice acts.

  • Serves as a role model by providing leadership expertise, and serves as a clinical and administrative resource to others. Provides coaching and development opportunities for assigned staff.

  • Serves as an advocate for the professional nursing practice and supports the work of the unit based council. Works in conjunction with the unit leadership to advance the practice of nursing and the delivery of care in a coordinated, supportive way.

  • Communicates with the unit leader and documents any unusual events that occur during shift. To include, but not limited to; exceptional teamwork and professionalism, accidents, injuries, safety issues, deviations from appropriate patient care, breaches in professionalism, staffing abnormalities and special circumstances and variance from policy and procedures.

  • The above essential functions are representative of major duties of positions in this job classification. Specific duties and responsibilities may vary based upon departmental needs. Other duties may be assigned similar to the above consistent with knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job. Not all of the duties may be assigned to a position.

Logan Health operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Schedules are set to accommodate the requirements of the position and the needs of the organization and may be adjusted as needed.
