Nicholson Construction Co Regional Equipment / Yard Manager in Kalamazoo, Michigan

ROLE DESCRIPTION:

  • Reports directly to the Senior Vice President

  • Responsible for the overall equipment maintenance and repair of owned equipment and organization and maintenance of the yard.

  • Maintains contacts within the industry through vendors, competitors, so that NCC has current information on the equipment that is c currently utilized and is available to be used in various applications relating to NCC projects.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains current knowledge of all NCC equipment in regards to capabilities, maintenance, repairs, and basic operation.

  • Provides information and recommendations on equipment acquisition and disposal. Develop equipment rotation and tracking system to maintain records and documents so that useful analysis can be performed based on utilization and repair costs. Assists with setting internal rental rates and establishing rates that meet the needs of projects filing claims with various agencies.

  • Arranges and coordinates the repair and set-up of construction equipment to prepare for projects as part of the regional needs.

  • Assigns and coordinates the travel mechanics to provide service and repairs on sites to best serve the overall equipment needs of NCC.

  • Work with other Plant Managers, equipment maintenance supervisors, engineers and other technicians to design and build new equipment or to modify existing equipment to best satisfy the requirements of the regional needs and project sites.

  • Researches and helps to develop plans that establish best practices as related to equipment repair and maintenance. Develop co-op training program to cross train plant employees in the field on project sites and field employees in the plant.

  • Provide training, instruction, and communication channels for the plant, operations, and management to improve the overall knowledge base and flow of information within NCC.

  • Manages and oversees mechanics, welders and other regional support staff working in the plant for regional needs.

  • Manages and oversees yard organization and maintenance, including yard upgrades.

  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum High School – Preferred Associates or B.S. in a technical field (Mechanical, Equipment Design, etc.)

  • Five years minimum in the Heavy Equipment industry with emphasis on firsthand experience and a variety of equipment manufacturers and types.

  • Manufacturer based training programs are desirable. (Example: CAT, Liebherr, or Bauer)

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of and experience working in the field of heavy equipment repair and maintenance procedures and systems.

  • Knowledge of and experience working in the Geotechnical construction field.

  • Ability to read and understand schematics and technical drawings.

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite products as well as equipment related maintenance and management software similar to HCSS products.

CERTIFICATIONS/OTHER:

  • OSHA 10

  • First Aid – CPR
