Job Description

Our Juneau Transportation Division is looking for a Diesel Technician to join their team. You will be a part of the team providing quality preventative maintenance and service to our fleet of rail cars and rail related components.

Responsibilities:

  • Position performs a variety of maintenance task across a wide spectrum of rail car and facility components.

  • Adept in the repair and diagnosis of electrical systems, diesel power generation, HVACs, commercial appliances, welding and fabrication.

  • Will be required to complete safety inspection and repairs on passenger rail cars.

  • Applies federal, state, and Company regulations, policies, and procedures to all tasks.

  • Maintains maintenance records in the appropriate logs.

  • Performs other maintenance duties required by departmental supervision.

Requirements:

  • This job normally requires a level of knowledge in rail maintenance equivalent to that which would be acquired through the completion of a technical training or certification program. Demonstration of directly related work experience be considered in lieu of the educational requirement.

  • Certification or work experience in a related technical field is required.

  • Verifiable work experience in one of the following fields; electrical, HVAC, diesel power generators, or welding/fabrication.

  • EPA Freon Handlers certification preferred.

  • Complete set of mechanics hand tools required.

  • Current, valid state driver license with a clean driving record is required. Motor Vehicle Report will be requested.

  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening and will be part of a random testing program.

  • Must pass pre-employment background check.

  • Must be able to legally work in the United Staes.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to troubleshoot complex problems involving electrical, HVAC or diesel generators and effect the correct repairs.

  • Proficiency in the use of computer business applications, with working knowledge of computerized maintenance inventory and laptop diagnostics.

  • Proficiency in reading electric and pneumatic schematics, maintenance literature, and parts diagrams.

  • The ability to prioritize work, maintain attention to time constraints, while working in a team or group environment. You must also have the ability to organize work, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail and accuracy.

  • The ability to communicate clearly, verbally and written, with employees and management.

  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision while achieving daily goals.

  • The ability to support and comply with company policies, procedures and guidelines including company health and safety standards.

  • This position requires frequent lifting up to 50 pounds and occasional lifting/moving up to 60 pounds.

  • Position is required to work out side in all weather conditions and will work non-traditional shifts at times.
