Description

We have an exciting opportunity for Therapeutic Recreation students to intern at ChildServe! This internship will work within our long-term Care and Pediatric Inpatient Rehabilitation Units.

ChildServe provides 24-hour skilled nursing care in a family-focused environment. We care for children, teens, and young adults who are unable to live at home due to their complex medical needs. Our intensive medical and nursing services support individuals with a variety of conditions. Along with expert medical care, we provide onsite therapy and medical equipment support to help each child and young adult live a full life. What You'll Do

  • Observe, assist, and lead scheduled groups.

  • Initiate 1:1 sessions, assessments, and interventions with residents.

  • Observe and participate in staff meetings, resident review rounds, interdisciplinary cotreatments, and regular meetings with Internship Supervisor.

  • Participate in all intervention planning, evaluation, and documentation.

  • Complete a project related to creating a great life for our residents.

    What You'll Need

  • Enrollment in an undergraduate program in an accredited university/college in Therapeutic Recreation

  • All course work must be completed, and student intends to take CTRS exam through the NCTRC.

  • Ability to work with a wide range of kids and young adults with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities as well as complex medical needs.

  • Ability to make decisions in high pressure situations.

  • Must exercise confidentiality regarding the affairs of clients, staff, their families, and child.

  • Ability to interpret and follow applicable policies, procedures, and regulations.

  • Ability to communicate in English effectively for understanding, in writing and verbally.

  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs, be mobile within the assigned work area, and frequently bend, lift, reach, and stand.

  • This position requires COVID vaccination or a ChildServe approved medical or religious exemption.

    Schedule

  • Monday-Friday, typical business hours with infrequent evenings/weekends for special projects/events/outings as needed.
