Heartland Area Education Agency Early Childhood Special Education Consultant in Johnston, Iowa

Description:

Heartland AEA has a full-time position available for the 2023-24 school year, based in the Newton regional office, serving children birth to 5 years of age in the Baxter, Newton, and Lynnville-Sully school districts. This position will support Early ACCESS, including providing direct services in the home for children with IFSPs, and work closely with families and the school district in implementing the transition plan as a child turns 3 years old and transitions from Early ACCESS. In addition, this position will support preschool and early childhood special education programs in the Baxter, Newton, and Lynnville-Sully school districts, as well as local center-based early childhood programs. This position will have a 192-day contract and will provide for the identification, evaluation and educational programming of young children with disabilities in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. Demonstrated experience developing and fostering strong relationships with parents, children, district staff, and AEA staff is required. Experience assessing and programming for infants, toddlers, and children (birth to 5) with significant behavioral, cognitive, and communication needs is preferred.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have demonstrated successful collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, as well as experience supporting children and families from diverse backgrounds. Experience supporting MTSS design, implementation, and evaluation at the preschool-level preferred. Qualified applicants must be appropriately licensed/certified by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners, have a master's degree and a background in special education, including four years of teaching experience. Basic computer and technology skills are required. Bilingual abilities are a plus, but not required.
