We have an exciting opportunity for a Software Engineering Manager to join and lead our Financial Services engineering team, where you'll be surrounded by passionate individuals! The ideal candidate is expected to be a technical leader, and a problem solver, ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality software products while continuously enhancing processes and encouraging a collaborative work environment.

As a Software Engineering Manager, you will be an integral part of our forward-thinking team, leading multiple engineering teams and supporting across various technologies and skillsets. Duties and Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Technical Leadership:

  • Plan and execute large deliveries considering dependencies and priorities

  • Evolve technical architecture to address business needs and support future product requirements

  • Manage multiple tracks of work simultaneously, prioritizing effectively

Team Growth and Success:

  • Support the growth and success of engineers across Mukuru.

  • Provide effective feedback to manage team members' performance and expectations, and identify strategic areas for development.

  • Motivate and celebrate both team and individual achievements, promotinga culture of recognition and support

Technical Expertise and Innovation

  • Demonstrate expertise in infrastructure and technology stack, solving large-scale problems affecting the domain

  • Shape architecture and recommend improvements in stability, performance, and scalability

  • Identify opportunities for new approaches, shaping team processes and strategies

Recruiting and Team Building

  • Play a key role in the recruiting process, planning team capacity and ensuring that we attract and retain world-class engineers

  • Effectively communicate clear direction to team members, ensuring understanding of project goals and individual roles

  • Promote open channels for team communication, encouraging transparency and collaboration

Key Requirements:

  • Passion for people, technology and problem-solving

  • Relevant IT degree or diploma in the field of computer science

  • 10+ years' experience working in software development

  • Demonstrated knowledge of system architecture, technical design, and system and software development technology

  • Expertise with managing application development at scale, employing SDLC methodologies including Agile and Scrum

  • Expertise with managing multiple teams across diverse projects, coordinating priorities to ensure efficient delivery

  • Problem-Solving and Management:

  • Ability to quickly break down complex problems

  • Effective management of multiple teams and multiple tracks of work

  • Understanding and solving business-critical problems

  • Effective Communication:

  • Proficiency in clear, structured communication

  • Ability to provide clarity in direction and engage team communication

  • Influential communication skills to drive decisions and strategies

  • Technical Expertise:

  • Expertise in infrastructure and technology stack

  • Ability to solve large-scale or undefined problems

  • Experience in shaping architecture and driving improvements

Additional Skills:

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with DevOps teams to ensure seamless deployment and infrastructure support

  • Experience working alongside Head of Products, Product Owners, Business Analysts, and other stakeholders to achieve project goals

  • Ability to champion a collaborative ethos and prioritization within the team

  • A drive for process efficiency and the ability to introduce improvements in development processes
