Chart Industries Senior Design Engineer in Johannesburg, South Africa

The Big Picture:

Howden, a Chart Industries Company, is a global leader in air and gas handling products, services and solutions. Howden’s core focus is on providing quality solutions for air and gas handling, and have over a century of experience in doing so.

Howden MEA Projects is currently looking for an experienced Senior Design Engineer with extensive experience in bag house cleaning system design. This position will provide a competent engineering and design resource to external and internal clients.

What needs to be done?

  • Engineering tasks: Design of filter systems, gas compression and refrigeration system and other environmental control systems, validating existing designs and attending to repairs and design modification. Troubleshooting on and off-site inspections, condition monitoring, scope of repairs. Provide workable engineering solutions to problems experienced by both internal & external clients to ensure their needs are met. Actively participate and take ownership when required in all pollution control projects. Actively participate and take ownership when required of engineering projects.

  • Documentation: Work as part of the engineering team to develop design philosophies for process plat filtration and pollution control. Develop & revise Eng. Dept. documentation (e.g. specifications, design manuals, software etc.) to ensure they are relevant & up to date.

  • Engineering Support: Provide resource for pollution control equipment testing where required. Training and mentoring of junior and less experienced engineering staff. Attend to other departments’ engineering problems in order to achieve workable solution in pollution control field unassisted. Serve as a resource to all other staff engineering queries.

  • Customer relations: Attend to client queries with respect to existing or planned equipment and promote Howden engineering excellence in the marketplace. Maintain favourable relationships with Howden client base.

  • Compliance: Adhere to Sarbanes Oxley and AX controls

What do you need to bring?

  • Mechanical Engineering Degree, B-Eng or BSc.

  • 5 years’ experience in design of large pollution control and filtration plants preferable.

  • 5 years’ experience in fan design – axial and centrifugal preferable.

  • 5 years’ experience in bag house design preferable.

  • Exposure to heavy engineering workshop practice.

  • Working knowledge of Autodesk AutoCAD and Inventor.

  • Exposure to FEA software.

  • Above average communication skills – spoken and written.

  • Knowledge of prime suppliers of pollution control equipment components – local and worldwide.

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.
