Valley National Bank ABL Collateral Analyst in Jericho, New York

The ABL Collateral Analyst is responsible for serving as the initial assessor, monitor and controller of collateral and loan activity for the ABL portfolio. The main responsibilities of the Collateral Analyst are to receive the borrowing base certificate and other collateral reports from the borrower, input the data into the loan monitoring system and assist with loan set up. They will also prepare the calculation of ineligibles, perform validation and reconciliation of the reported borrowing base collateral based on supporting documentation, review invoices and credit memos and perform verifications on those accounts where required. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of performing due diligence on loan collateral and ensuring that it meets company and industry standards.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Lead the review and analysis of loan collateral, including borrowing base certificates, A/R aging's, inventory reports, and appraisals.
  • Processes advance requests, validates there is sufficient availability, and obtains all required advance approvals.
  • Reviews and monitors collateral performance trends and effectively communicates analysis to colleagues and clients.
  • Evaluate the value of assets and determine their loan eligibility with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Monitor collateral to ensure that it remains in compliance with loan conditions and proactively identify potential issues.
  • Verifies borrowers' incoming cash receipts and records information into loan monitoring system.
  • Communicate with borrowers and portfolio managers to resolve any collateral issues and provide guidance on best practices.
  • Prepare detailed reports on loan collateral and present findings to senior management and stakeholders and processes and reviews month-end closing system.
  • Completes and reviews collateral analysis, identifies all issues and determines appropriate course of action to address and resolve reconciliation matters and other reporting issues.
  • Performs full validation and reconciliation of borrower-reported borrowing base collateral to ensure that the borrowing base availability is accurate and in conformance with the credit agreement.
  • Analyzes ineligibles and reserves as well as makes recommendations for changes based on thorough collateral analysis.
  • Conducts daily reconciliations of loan balances, advances, and cash collections between the bank's core loan system and ABLSoft.
  • Review invoices and credit memos and may perform verifications on those accounts.
  • Ensures compliance with all credit policies and maintains accuracy in operational procedures.
  • Seeks to proactively understand the client to spot early warning signs of increased risk.
  • Stay up to date on industry and regulatory developments and trends related to asset-based lending and implement best practices within the organization.

Required Skills:
  • Proficient in MS Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Analyze, interpret, and apply financial analysis, financial modeling, and statistics.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present findings to senior management.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment and collaborate effectively.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with experience leading complex evaluations.
  • Experience with collateral field examinations.
  • Experience using an ABL software system, preferable ABLSoft. Strong understanding of lending regulations and standards.
  • Working knowledge of bank regulations and commercial or consumer lending businesses (preferred). Detail oriented and organized.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality and uphold strong ethical standards.
Required Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Five years of experience in Asset Based Lending or related field.
