UPMC Diagnostic Technologist in Jamestown, New York



Performs imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. Competently performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for diagnostic purposes.


  • Demonstrates a strong abilityto interact with both patients and co-workers, while displaying a highlevel of caring, listening, dignity and respect.

  • Able to work as team memberwithin the department and all other departments to expedite patient careefficiently.

  • Administers PO and rectalcontrast per physician orders/department policy

  • Demonstrates the ability tocommunicate instructions to patients in a clear and concise manner andexplain procedures to help allay the patient's fears and solicit theircooperation.

  • Ensures all exams withinhis/her area of responsibility are properly coded and tracked through RISsystem, all exams are properly networked to ISITE for archiving andinterpretation, and all charges are adequately entered for the examsperformed.

  • Identifies all patientsproperly by using two patient identifiers and utilizes universal protocolwhen performing procedures.

  • Reviews patient history andassesses physician orders, applying specific departmental protocols foroptimal results in the acquisition of data.

  • Documents patient history inelectronic record as required.

  • Performs a variety of technicalprocedures that require independent judgement to adjust protocols andshows initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation appropriately fordiagnostic radiography purposes.

  • Performs diagnostic radiographyprocedures utilizing established protocols/procedures without requiringconstant supervision.

  • Utilizes complex imagingequipment for the acquisition, analysis, manipulation and documentation ofimage data and completes procedures according to protocol.


Graduate of an ARRT approved school of Radiologic Technology.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • ARRT Registry eligible as a RadiologicTechnologist.

  • Current New York State licensedrequired

  • Must obtain radiography registrywithin 12 months of hire date.

  • CPR required based on AHA standardsthat include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30days of hire

  • Basic Life Support or Cardio PulmonaryResuscitation
