Petticoat-Schmitt Civil Contractors, Inc., is a privately owned civil contracting firm that performs work in the public and private market, specializing in clearing, grading, underground water/utility, roadway, and wastewater plant construction throughout the Southeast.

We provide services to both public and private customers with water resources, public works, and site development projects. If you have experience working in the heavy civil construction industry as a Skilled Laborer or want to grow that experience, this role will be a great fit. Youll love coming to work every day if you can:

  • Safely operate construction hand tools.
  • Handle and move various construction materials.
  • Operate heavy equipment: skid steers, off-road dump trucks, front-end loaders, backhoes, trackhoes, excavators, and/or bulldozers.

Youll have success here if you value clear processes and feel qualified to do the following:

  • Have experience with underground water, sewer, or storm utilities
  • Have experience as a Pipe Layer, Tailman, Hillman, or Equipment Operator
  • Work with a diverse group of people to achieve a common goal
  • Demonstrate knowledge of proper, safe use of equipment, materials, and supplies used in the heavy construction industry
  • Effectively communicate skills to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions
  • Show responsibility for job site safety
  • Have reliable transportation - are willing to commute to job sites throughout northeast Florida (within 40 miles of Jacksonville)
  • Work 40-50 hours per week - Saturdays as necessary. Overtime is likely, but not guaranteed.

Benefits and Compensation:

  • $18.00 - $20.00 per hour based on experience
  • Monthly safety bonuses and performance incentives
