Title:

Automotive Diesel Mechanic

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Maintains, services, inspects and repairs combustion-powered automotive vehicles, over-the-road trucks, and comparable vehicles such as light combat vehicles, and trucks as well as other motor transport equipment. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Performs operator, intermediate and limited major rebuild levels of maintenance which includes spot painting. Performs other tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.

  • Four years directly related work experience.

  • Certificate from a vocational school or other recognized source with a major study in electrical or automotive repair is preferred.

  • In lieu of formal course work, a combination of college credits, on-the-job training, other formalized training, or experience may be considered.

  • Completion of the basic automotive mechanics course, or equivalent.

  • Completion of the automotive organizational maintenance course, or equivalent.

  • Completion of the automotive intermediate maintenance course, or equivalent.

  • Maintains MVAC 609 Technician Certification.

  • Completion of the advanced motor transport maintenance courses.

  • In lieu of formal course work, a combination of college credits, on-the-job training, other formalized training, or experience may be considered.

  • Working knowledge of how heavy duty machinery, engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions and other parts and systems work.

  • Ability to detect faulty items, determine cause of malfunction, and determine best repair methods.

  • Ability to assemble, disassemble, repair, or modify components and systems. Ability to read and interpret parts lists, manufacturers’ and Government repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics.

  • Thorough understanding of the principles of operation and required repairs of all components and sub-components including but not limited to the Suspension, Engine, Transmission, Transfers, Differentials, wreckers, winches and sub-components.

  • Ability to utilize Technical Manuals, Lubrication Orders/Instructions, and Modification Instructions to repair all rolling stock assets.

  • Possess a valid State Motor Vehicle Operator License and able to obtain and maintain a Tactical Operator License as necessary.

  • Ability to comply with all established methods, safety standards, quality standards, and time schedules applicable to this position.

  • U.S. Citizen.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC) and Base Access.
