Baptist Memorial Technologist-Medical Senior - JS Pathology General MBMC in Jackson, Mississippi

Summary

Utilizes laboratory skills to perform and report results of clearly defined laboratory procedures assuring optimal patient outcomes. Performs other duties as assigned. Recommends and evaluates technical methods and procedures. Executes effective and efficient Laboratory operations. Works assigned shifts and subject to overtime and call back as required. Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, identifies, organizes and prioritizes specimens to ensure accurate and timely test processing.

  • Performs and reports requested laboratory procedures.

  • Performs quality control, proficiency testing, routine instrument maintenance and inventory control.

  • Evaluates positive patient identification to reduce analytical and post-analytical error and/or adverse patient outcomes.

  • Assesses, evaluates and draws appropriate conclusions.

  • Evaluates technical methods and procedures.

  • Executes effective and efficient Laboratory operations.

  • Supports life long learning

  • Completes assigned goals.

  • Provide instruction for personnel and medical technology students, as required.

Requirements, Preferences and Experience

Education

Minimum: Bachelor's degree Medical Technology required, or Bachelor's degree in a related field required.

Experience

Preferred: Hospital experience preferred.

Minimum: 1 year Healthcare/Medical-Medical/Clinical Laboratory Technologist required.

Licensure, Registration, Certification

Preferred: ASCP

Minimum: License/Certification (valid for state of MS): ASCP or AMT certification as Medical Technologist (MT) required or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) required, or discipline specific ASCP or AMT certification for non-generalist positions required.

Special Skills

Minimum: Basic computer literacy skills.
