Henry Ford Health System Part-Time Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant – Pain Management Inpt/Outpt - (JACKSON, MI) in Jackson, Michigan

Position Summary:

This is an Advanced Practice Professional (APP) job opening. Both qualified/experienced NP and PA applicants will be considered, as well as new graduates.

Advanced Practice Professional will provide health care and specialized health services to patients and families enrolled in Pain Management Medicine. The APP will coordinate care of this patient population in collaboration with all members of the health care team. This position will be inpatient/outpatient.

Prefer candidates with pain management experience.

APPs with practice #5 (hiring another FT, plus this PT position)

  • Independently evaluates patients in the clinic and in the hospital

  • Ordering/interpreting testing and lab results, modifying plan of care to address results

  • Provide clinical expertise and direction to support patient medication management

  • Maintain accurate documentation regarding patient status, evaluations, and treatments to physicians, streamline the patient transfer process between levels of care, including communicating specific patient needs to internal and external team members and other ambulatory care providers

  • Perform other related duties as required to assure patient safety and satisfaction

  • Participate in the development and presentation of educational experiences for patients, families, and health care professionals

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. In collaboration with physician(s), APP will provide independent acute and/or routine medical care to a patients and families enrolled in Pain Management Medicine.

  2. Writes appropriate orders, if/when applicable

  3. Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods

  4. Coordinates the activities of patient care and support staff within the clinic

  5. Writes progress notes in EMR indicating patient status and treatment procedures performed

  6. Provides health education to patients, families, and/or community health practitioners and groups

  7. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshop

  8. May perform clinical research related to specific operations

  9. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  10. Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures

  11. Knowledge of drugs and their indications, contraindications, dosing, side effects, and proper administration

  12. Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards

  13. Ability to perform medical examinations using standard medical procedures

  14. Life support as required through privileging

  15. Ability to clearly communicate medical information to professional practitioners and/or the general public

  16. Ability to educate patients and/or families as to the nature of disease and to provide instruction on proper care and treatment

  17. Knowledge of current and emerging trends in technologies, techniques issues, and approaches in area of expertise

  18. Ability to communicate therapeutically with patients and families

  19. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations

  20. Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements

  21. Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions

  22. Skill in preparing and maintaining patient records

  23. Knowledge of primary care principles and practices

Will work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training

GENERAL SUMMARY: Provides inpatient and/or outpatient medical care. Takes patient history, performs physical examination, orders, and interprets tests, makes diagnoses, and institutes appropriate treatment programs. Works in collaboration with staff physicians, house officers, nurses, and other medical care team members to ensure that patient outcomes are achieved safely and efficiently. Specific procedures are individually credentialed as indicated by training and experience. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Master's degree in nursing. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED: Certified Nurse Practitioner. Licensed as a Registered Nurse. Current BLS or ACLS as required. Current ATLS/PALS provider status as required by department.

  1. NP – Completion of a Nurse Practitioner training program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC)

OR

  1. PA – Completion of a Physician Assistant training program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)

Continuing Education

  1. Applicant must have sufficient education credits to maintain licensure as required by the applicable State of Michigan licensing board

    Certification
  2. NP – Certification by a certification body recognized by the State of Michigan

  3. PA – Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)

Other

  1. Michigan License, or in process of applying (must have proof of application)
