LifeWays Medical Assistant in Jackson, Michigan

Under the direction and supervision of the Supervisor, Integrated Health Clinic Services, the LifeWays Medical Assistant provides culturally competent and trauma-informed services to all consumers seeking access to behavioral health services through LifeWays, utilizing established criteria and clinical skills to screen individuals for community mental health eligibility and provide appropriate interventions to individuals presenting in crisis. The Medical Assistant consistently incorporates LifeWays' mission, vision and values into all decision making.

Essential Functions:

  1. Welcomes all individuals by demonstrating empathy and providing opportunity for the person presenting to describe situation, problems and functioning difficulties, exhibiting excellent customer service skills, and working with them in a non-judgmental way.
  2. Performs all duties as assigned to ensure the Integrated Health Department runs efficiently and effectively. Duties include but are not limited to screenings (examples include fall risk, PHQ9, ACES, etc.), vitals, medication pre-authorizations, provides timely response to consumer inquiries, referrals, and acting on care alerts as assigned.
  3. Assures Tele-Medicine equipment is functional, and area is free of clutter.
  4. Performs vital signs and gathers other patient information, per protocols, for every consumer seen in the clinic and records appropriately in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  5. Performs Clozaril POC finger stick testing and relays results to nurses, pharmacies and uploads results into patient chart.
  6. Provides assistance to physician and nurses in completing tasks such as locating and uploading lab results and medical records, contacting pharmacies for additional medication related information, and faxing paperwork as requested.
  7. Assists telemedicine physicians with patient management.
  8. Maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Required Education/Certification/Licensure:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical Assistant Certification from Accredited program for the State of Michigan.

Preferred Education/Certification/Licensure:

  • College degree in healthcare.
