Summary:  Instructor helps students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as career-ready individuals in the field of Culinary Arts. This Instructor will be responsible for organizing and delivering culinary arts curriculum, along with Jackson Area Career Center core curriculum.

Non-instructional duties include but are not limited to assisting with the development of materials.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Work is performed under the general supervision of administration. The employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following (does not include all tasks employee may be expected to perform):

Effectively teaches the state and district-approved curriculum using clear objectives and assessments.

Plans a program of study, including lesson plans, activities and assignments, which demonstrates current knowledge of industry standards and practices, alignment of content and instruction, incorporation of building improvement goals, and meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students.

Incorporates a variety of teaching strategies, tools and resources, including technology, to enhance student learning and engagement, including support of IEP and 504 plans.

Uses student data to evaluate effective instructional delivery and make adjustments as appropriate.

Seeks assistance for students demonstrating difficulties in classroom learning activities.

Assesses the accomplishments of students fairly, consistently and routinely, using a balance of summative and formative assessments. Provides student progress reports.

Prepares students to be successful on applicable certification exam upon completion of program.

Evaluates and places students in work experience, cooperative education, apprenticeship or other appropriate work sites according to their abilities.

Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.

Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students. Acts as a role model of class expectations for students, including respect and rapport.

Collaborates with instructional assistant when planning and implementing daily curriculum lessons and clinical procedures to maximize class time.

Maintains an advisory committee to meet state requirements; participates on committees and assist with marketing to support program and institution.

Provides leadership for and collaboration with student activities such as career and technical student organizations (CTSO) and other school-sponsored student activities.

Works cooperatively and communicates effectively and proactively with all students, parents, local schools, fellow teachers, staff, industry representatives, etc. Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.

Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law and district policy.

Follows and enforces all policies and procedures in support of a safe work environment for students and staff. Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.

Develops laboratory and classroom facilities. Maintains and cares for facilities, equipment and inventory to meet industry and institutional standards. Notifies appropriate administrator of additional maintenance support needs.
