Sort diamonds according to size for use in jewelry, using precision measuring instruments, magnifying glasses, loupes, and sieve. Fabricate, finish and evaluate quality of precious gems and diamonds used for jewelry. Examine gems for accuracy of angles and position of cuts. Assign clarity grades to precious and semi-precious stones according to established grading systems using refractometers, microscopes, and other optical instruments. Estimate both wholesale and retail value of gems, following pricing guides, market trends and other factors. Read work orders to determine size required to fit mountings for each gem/diamond/stone.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 2 years of relevant experience in job offered or as a Diamond Setter, Gemologist, Diamond Cutter, Jewelry Maker, or related. Any suitable combination of education, training & experience is acceptable.
