Postdoctoral Associate - CVM - Microbiology & Immunology, Leifer Lab

Position Description:

  • Qualifications: PhD in immunology or related field.
  • Ideal candidate would have additional expertise in bioinformatics, cell biology, molecular biology techniques, and laboratory animal handling experience.
  • Duties and Responsibilities: This individual will be in charge of designing and performing experiments in the area of innate immune signaling, macrophages, and disease models.
    • Cell culture for primary human and mouse cells as well as cell lines
    • Basic assays such as ELISA, luciferase reporters, etc
    • RNA/PCR/sequencing
    • RNA sequencing and analysis
    • Molecular cloning/transfection/transduction
    • Flow cytometry
    • Immunoblotting/protein analysis/immunoprecipitation/co-IP
    • Animal handling/disease modeling
    • Supervision exercised: The candidate will assist with mentoring graduate students, summer research students, and undergraduate researchers as appropriate.
    • Supervision received: The candidate will work independently and collaborate with others in the lab. Weekly individual meetings, weekly group meetings, and biannual meetings with a mentoring committee.

A postdoctoral position is available in the Leifer Laboratory in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Cornell University. The lab focuses on innate immune receptor signaling and regulation using a variety of techniques from signal pathway analysis in primary human and mouse macrophages and dendritic cells, and cell lines, to whole animal models of disease. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) and their crosstalk with other signaling pathways is a current area of ongoing research.


We seek highly motivated candidates with experience in cell biology, signaling, innate immune receptors, flow cytometry, molecular biology, and lab animal handling experience. Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must and bioinformatics experience analyzing -omics data is a plus. This individual will work on currently funded projects as well as carve out their own project in TLR signaling regulation. There are also multiple opportunities to engage in ongoing collaborative projects.

Pay Range:

$54,840.00 - $75,000.00

Pay Ranges:

The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:

  • Prior relevant work or industry experience.

  • Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.

  • Academic Discipline (faculty pay ranges reflects 9-month annual salary)

  • Unique applicable skills.
